Peru - Day 6 {Cusco}

We woke up, had breakfast at the hotel, and then decided to check out a textile co-op recommended by our guide book (I should have known better). There was a huge parade and dance competition in the plaza so we spent some time checking things out and then tried to head through the crowds to walk to the textile co-op.

When I stopped to take this picture Danny decided to stop in a store. I didn't know and kept walking thinking he had continued walking. I walked for quite awhile and soon realized that I should have caught up to Danny by that time. Danny was lost! There were crowds everywhere and I began to panic. I decided to run back to where I had stopped to take the picture and there was Danny. I asked what had happened and he said, "I went into a store that looked interesting." haha. Sounds like something I would do!

The textile co-op had a museum. They also had people weaving by hand inside the store but when I tried to take a picture they looked mad. I mean, if someone tried to take a picture of me at work I'd be mad too. Then after I left I realized I should have taken the picture. I bought a ton of their stuff and they were working in the open so people could take pictures!

Inside McDonalds in Cusco. We ate there a lot while in Cusco because it was so close and convenient. We were disappointed with ourselves that we didn't branch out but it was safe food and we didn't want to get sick. We never saw another McDonalds our whole time in Peru and actually craved McDonalds later and couldn't find one so I guess it's a good thing we ate it when we had a chance.

As we were walking back from McDonalds to our hotel we saw a sign for mountain biking to the salt mines in the Sacred Valley. I had done some research on the mountain biking tours and was interested but they were expensive ($200+ pp). Danny was really interested so we went into the travel agency to learn more.  We asked how much the tour was and they said $40 pp. Danny was sold and was so excited. I asked if the ride was all down hill and they said yes. I asked if I need any previous mountain biking experience and they said no. So we signed up to go the next day because Danny was just so excited about it. The whole rest of the day I was wishing I had asked why their tour was only $40 compared to the other companies who charged $200.

We met our tour group in front of the cathedral. We had already done the cathedral with our friends the night before so we decided to just wait outside. They were only suppose to be 30 minutes but they ended up being an hour! It kind of ruined the rest of the tour because we didn't have time for everything.

Danny really liked this statute outside the cathedral

Our group finally came out of the cathedral and one of the group members was suffering from extreme altitude sickness and was lying on the ground and flailing about. Needless to say they had to be left behind. We walked through town to the Sun Temple to continue our tour.

We got on a tour bus to visit the rest of the Inca sites on the outskirts of the city. Unfortunatley we had to skip one and see the last one in the dark because the cathedral took so long. Not to worry though, the guide still made us stop at the Alpaca factory.

Our guide conveniently disappeared for over half an hour despite all the tour members waiting by the bus ready to go. We were really late getting back and I ended up a little angry that I bought anything at the store. He didn't deserve the commission! As we were walking back from the tour we decided to stop in a french bistro for dinner. Danny tried Chicha Morada for the first time and loved it. We had delicious empanadas and chocolate cake for dinner.

We tried to get to bed early so we would be rested for our big biking adventure but we were woken up at 2am by a Peruvain family in our hotel yelling at each other and slamming doors. They finally left the hotel at 3am. I couldn't fall back to sleep and I was so bugged I hadn't gotten a single good nights rest at our hotel. The next day was going to be interesting.
